Task Recorder in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations: Queue-Tips
Today’s post in our “Queue Tips” series will focus on one great feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations – the Task recorder. Task recorder can automatically capture each click and field value selection the user makes during any process in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations.

How to capture a Task Recording
Step 1: Under the settings icon, select the Task Recorder/Create Recording.
Step 2: In the task recorder form, enter a recording name and the description. It can provide additional details of what the recording contains to help a user select the correct one.
There is also an option to capture screenshots throughout the recording as well.
You will know the recording is taking place as there will be a red dot in the top left-hand corner of the screen.

How to review a Task Recording
To review the recording, you can either select Playback Recording, which gives you the option to edit each step. A useful feature is that you can edit the standard Steps titles with something particularly relevant to your business.

Once you are happy with the recording, you have different saving options
- Save to this PC – This option will save a file to your local computer, which used to run the task recording as a task guide whereby a user is taken step by step through each task.
- Save to lifecycle services – This option allows you to upload the task recorder to lifecycle services, where your task recording can be associated with a business process model and can be made available in the help screen so all users can access the recording.
- Export as a Word document – This option allows you to export your task recording and screen captures to a Microsoft Word document. This is useful for users who prefer to have a document to refer to, rather than being taken through the process step by step within Dynamics 365 F&O.
How to playback a Task Recording
This can be selected from the Task Recorder menu – choosing from the recent list is a quick shortcut to open the recording you are looking for. The recorder will take the user to each field in the process.

Queue Tips
Practice before recording your steps.
What is the most efficient way to sequence the clicks you are going to use and the complete data set you will need for that process?
It will save you a lot of time editing the recording if you think about those questions beforehand.
Use the drop-down menus
The Task recorder does not capture shortcut keys or entering data manually. Make sure you click the drop-down to select the data when you are filling in fields.
Chrome extension is needed to capture screenshots
You will need to add the below extension to be able to capture screenshots.

How Task Recorder can help your business
Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations implementation stage
It will not only speed up the training process but the UAT stage as well, thereby saving the company time and money.
Cross-training of staff
In times of absence or holidays, staff will easily be able to stand in for others as they have a step-by-step recording of what needs to be completed for each process.
Adherence to company policies
As the Task recorder can explain both which and why data fields need to be populated, staff will gain a far better understanding of the broader implications of each process.
