Microsoft’s Brad Smith Advocates Industry Participation in Shaping Tech Regulations – CNBC

Brad Smith gave an important keynote speech on the topic “at the International Association of Privacy Professionals conference in Washington, D.C.” It contrasted with an earlier keynote “by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who warned that certain antitrust laws being considered by Congress could harm consumer privacy protections.”
“Smith suggested in his CNBC interview that” regulation “may not be an all or nothing proposition.” He told Kovach: “If you can put standards in place in one app store that governs a million apps, you can put standards in place to make room for two or three or four app stores that all have to comply with the same objective security and privacy requirements.” He also indicated that “The Europeans, the British, the Australians, the Japanese, the Koreans, they’re all moving forward,” suggesting that the US should “play an active role as well.”
