Microsoft Makes Dynamics 365 Customer Service More Agent-Ready With MCP

Microsoft is expanding the role of AI in customer service with the general availability of Dynamics 365 Customer Experience MCP Server for Service. The new capability allows organizations to connect Dynamics 365 Customer Service with a growing range of MCP-compatible AI experiences, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, ChatGPT, and Claude Code.
This development marks another step toward Microsoft’s vision for agentic AI, where AI moves beyond recommendations to actively interact with the systems and workflows employees use every day.
Bringing Customer Service Into AI Workflows
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides a standardized way for AI applications to connect with enterprise tools and data. Instead of creating separate integrations for every AI experience, organizations can use MCP to make Dynamics 365 Customer Service capabilities available across compatible clients.
With its general availability release, the Customer Service MCP Server includes more than 90 tools supporting common customer service workflows. These include managing and resolving cases, accessing customer and account information, searching knowledge articles, drafting and sending emails, tracking SLA status, updating Dataverse records, and surfacing next-best-action recommendations.
This means AI can increasingly work directly with customer service processes, rather than simply providing information about them.
Connecting AI With Real Business Context
One of the biggest challenges in enterprise AI is providing agents with the right business context. The MCP Server helps address this by connecting AI experiences with Dynamics 365 Customer Service data and capabilities while maintaining existing Dataverse roles and permissions. Organizations can therefore bring customer context, cases, knowledge, and service workflows into AI-powered experiences without abandoning established governance and access controls.
The platform is also designed to be extensible. Organizations can connect external MCP servers and bring existing Copilot Studio agents into the experience, allowing businesses to expand their AI capabilities as their needs evolve.
What This Means for Customer Service Teams
For customer service organizations, the value of MCP ultimately lies in reducing friction between AI and the work employees need to accomplish. Instead of switching between applications to find information, draft responses, update cases, or review customer history, employees can increasingly access these capabilities through AI experiences already becoming part of their daily workflows.
This could help service teams reduce manual work, respond to customers more efficiently, and make decisions with greater access to relevant context.
